Since 1982, he has passionately embodied his identity as a drummer and DJ, and in 2016, he expanded his creative horizons to include music production.

In 2023, while battling the challenges of fighting cancer, Doddy turned to music as a therapeutic outlet, channeling his anger and fears into powerful lyrics and heartfelt melodies that brought him strength and clarity during this profoundly difficult time.

Origin

Born and raised in Gatineau, Quebec, Doddy began his musical journey at an early age, influenced by his father, Lionel, a jazz musician from Haiti, who introduced him to a wide range of musical genres and instruments. “I’m a music enthusiast,” he often proclaims, proudly recalling the countless hours spent exploring his father’s vinyl collection, delving into the stories of musicians, producers, and recording studios that shaped iconic albums. Driven by his love for music, Doddy began spinning records at gatherings, inviting friends and strangers alike to embrace eclectic sounds and dance, creating an atmosphere of celebration and connection.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Black Coffee, Djeff, Dj Kent, Stromae, Rasmus Faber, and Yemi Alade, among others, he dedicated fifteen years to crafting his own compositions. He masterfully blends Afro House, Afrobeat, Amapiano, Deep House, Soul House, Jazz Fusion, Zouk, Yacht Rock, Hip Hop, House, Funk, and other electronic rhythms. While many DJs and musicians are celebrated for their technical skills or magnetic stage presence, Doddy stands out for his ability to transcend cultural boundaries and merge diverse musical styles into a cohesive and uplifting experience. Whether performing at private events, intimate gatherings with friends, or larger celebrations, he consistently delivers an engaging and energizing atmosphere, embodying his belief that music is both therapeutic and a joyful way to connect with others.

In 2023, while facing the challenges of battling cancer, Doddy turned to music as a therapeutic outlet, channeling his anger and fears into powerful lyrics and heartfelt melodies, which provided him with strength and clarity during this profoundly difficult time.

Creative Process

In today’s rapidly evolving musical landscape, artists and producers have access to a wide range of techniques and tools that can enhance creativity and efficiency in the studio. Software such as Logic Pro is a cornerstone for many, as it offers an intuitive platform for music creation, mixing, and mastering, catering to both beginners and seasoned professionals. The seamless integration of virtual instruments and audio plugins allows users to layer sounds in innovative ways, creating rich textures and complex arrangements. With resources like Loopmasters, which offers a vast library of high-quality samples and loops from various genres, musicians can quickly find the perfect sound to complement their compositions. On the other hand, services like LANDR are revolutionizing the mastering process, using AI technology to provide polished audio tracks in just a few clicks, significantly reducing the need for costly studio time and expertise.

Furthermore, apps like Studio Pro facilitate collaboration and project management, allowing artists to work together remotely and share ideas and files seamlessly. Platforms such as Fiverr and SoundBetter offer the opportunity to connect with skilled freelance musicians and singers who can help bring a vision to life, whether through session work, vocal performances, or mixing services. Alongside these digital tools, the use of hardware instruments, particularly a good synthesizer and the Roland Handsonic 10, adds a unique tactile feel to music production.

By integrating all these resources (software, samples, collaboration platforms, and hardware instruments), Doddy has been able to explore new creative avenues, enriching his sounds and pushing the boundaries of his art. For Doddy, at 51 years old, music is not just a new profession; it is a lifeline that sparks joy and fosters community among beautiful souls.

The Show : Îles Éclectique

Doddy’s sound is a vibrant spectacle woven from the diverse musical traditions of South Africa, Brazil, Cape Verde, Haiti, and Quebec. At its core, this music is built on the drum, where complex rhythms merge with indigenous musical languages, giving rise to a fresh interpretation of house music. Doddy thrives on spontaneity in his performances, often blending two tracks simultaneously while incorporating live musical elements. This unique approach allows him to showcase his own productions while promoting other artists and exploring various subgenres of electronic music, particularly Deep House, creating a rich soundscape that transcends traditional boundaries.
